 One of the most sought-after oral procedures is porcelain veneers. Anytime you put on your local TV or turn on the movies, you see stars with bright pearly smiles and it's enough to get a little jealous. The truth is when you get veneers your teeth are completely filed to nubs, then bonded to the veneers. Once you're committed to them you are committed forever How Long Do Veneers Last?You may have heard they last a lifetime. While they may last a lifetime for the elderly, it's not realistic middle age and younger people. Depending on your oral care habits, physical health, and medications you take, all are contributing factors to the life of your new teeth. The most common time frame is 8-12 years, meaning every decade they need replacing. Only a veneer can replace a veneer.Porcelain veneers are not bulletproof, if you let your oral hygiene go you can still receive gum disease. The veneer itself can't catch a cavity or disease, but it's entirely possible to get a cavity in the tooth covered by the veneer. If the tooth has decayed to the point another veneer can't be bonded you are looking at either surgical implant or dentures. Do veneers fall or break off?Simple answer. Yes, on average one in 10 veneer teeth will either fall off or need root canal treatment. This is due to either bacteria that has gotten into the dentin or inner tooth, or from the slow decay of an old tooth.A root canal with a veneered tooth means removing all the dead dentin followed by a crown. With each root canal, the root is expanded and sealed. You lose most of the remaining tooth area after one surgery. In some cases, there isn't enough tooth for another crown, then surgical implants is your next option. If you can't afford it, you will need to wear dentures for that tooth. As you have read, veneers look appealing, but they aren't as option friendly like your born and battle-hardened original teeth are.
