Dental Technology Dentist Salem, OR
At Fairmount Dental Center, we strive to provide you with the best care possible. Our tools are essential in providing you with that care. But we don’t use just any tools. Technology is constantly updated, including the technology that is used in the dental office. Certain tools that were used 10 years ago, are considered to be nowhere near as effective as their newest counterparts. We have taken the time to research and invest in top of the line dental technology, allowing us to help you achieve optimal oral health results.
X-rays are an important tool for aiding in your dental care. They allow us to see areas that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye, including between your teeth, under the gum line and the condition of your jawbone. We can also check for decay, infection, impacted teeth, shifting teeth or bone deterioration. Traditional X-rays use film and a machine that emits radiation. The film then needs to be developed in a separate room, taking up both valuable space and time.
Now, however, X-rays have gone digital. With the use of a sensor that is placed into your mouth, we can take X-ray images and have them immediately displayed on a monitor. We can zoom in to look at problem areas, display certain areas in different colors, and keep the images in a digital file, which allows for easy access and instant transfer if you need to be seen by a specialist. The best advantage to digital X-rays is that the pictures are available almost instantly, saving time and allowing you to get back to your life that much faster.
Ultrasonic Scalers
When plaque is not properly cleaned from the surface of your teeth, it hardens into tartar. Tartar cannot be removed with a regular toothbrush, and aids in the development of more severe stages of gum disease. Before, manual metal tools were used to scrape the tartar from your teeth, allowing your gums to begin the healing process. This tool, while effective, could also be painful.
At Fairmount Dental Center, we employ the use of ultrasonic scalers. These tools utilize ultrasonic vibrations to blast the tartar away. They also have the ability to spray water and administer an antibiotic solution under the gums to kill bacteria. Ultrasonic scalers are more precise and are much less painful, making the process of healing your gums that much easier.
Intraoral Cameras
Not all that long ago, small mirrors were used to allow us to see otherwise hard to view spaces in your mouth. However, now, we are using a tool known as an intraoral camera. This camera allows us to have a real-time image projected onto a monitor. We can snap pictures, zoom in, and spot problem areas that much earlier. And, spotting problems early, along with a more accurate diagnosis, we can provide you with the best treatment plan. As an added benefit, if you suffer from anxiety, you can see exactly what we see, and know what is going on at all times during your dental exam, cleaning or other procedure.
Technology is constantly evolving, including the technology used in the dental office. Our office is equipped with the latest technology to help enhance your experience and get the best results out of your oral care regimen. Contact us at (503) 362-8364to learn more.
